アメリカのミネソタで「ミンゲイソタ」と名付けた窯を開いた作家、ウォーレン・マッケンジーの小服茶碗ほどのサイズの作品です。黄土色の土に、黒い釉が全体に掛けられ、その上からは鼠釉が二重掛けされ、全体をしっとりとした表情で流れ落ちております。轆轤目や手跡がしっかりと出ており、力強くも柔らかい形は、ミネソタ州の雄大な自然から生み出された、大らかさや懐の深さを感じさせるもので、マッケンジーらしい芯のある佇まいをしております。お茶碗としてはやや小振りでして、 大きさの割には、手取りはズシリと重いものですが、旅茶碗としてお使いいただけるサイズです。バーナード・リーチより直接薫陶を受けた弟子で、アメリカにおける民藝の先駆者として残した功績はとても大きなものですが、先日鬼籍に入られまして、今後は作品の再評価がさらに進んでくる作家かと思います。高台脇には、リーチポタリーを継承する、 氏名の頭文字を表した、Wの作家スタンプが押されておりまして、作行きから2000年代の作と推測されます。状態は、口縁に釉薬の小さな弾けが一つあり、口に当たると少し気になる方がいらっしゃるかと思います。
This piece is about the size of a small teacup by Warren McKenzie, an artist who opened a kiln in Minnesota, USA, named "Mingay-Sota. The ochre clay is covered entirely with a black glaze, over which a double layer of gray glaze has been applied, running down the entire surface. The potter's wheel marks and hand marks are clearly visible, and the strong yet soft shape gives a sense of generosity and nostalgia produced by the magnificent nature of Minnesota, and has a core appearance typical of Mackenzie. It is a little small for a teacup, and although it is heavy in the hand, it is a size that can be used as a travel teacup. He is a pupil who received direct training from Bernard Leach, and his achievements as a pioneer of folk art in the U.S. are very great, but he passed away recently, and I think that his works will be reevaluated in the future. On the side of the stand, there is a WM stamp that represents the first letter of the name of the artist who succeeded Reach Pottery. There is a small flake of glaze on the edge of the mouth, which may bother some people if it hits their mouth.
